In late March, Heidi Clayton – a cyclist in our community – was hit by a car while on a training ride in Ahwatukee. We won’t go into great details recapping the incident, but Joe Wells wrote an article about it here and WomensBikeTalk.com wrote about it here. Read both if you need to be brought up to speed with what happened and get a picture of the tough road to recovery Heidi is facing.
Now for something positive…
2 Wheels 4 Hope is (and this is taken directly off their website) “an Arizona based, nonprofit cycling event helping cyclists in need! We are committed to offering hope through fundraising and awareness. Your participation in the TT or Fun ride as well as your donations directly supports a chosen cyclist in need”.
It makes me happy to know that there are people in our community that grab the flag, organize the troops, and lead the charge to support us when terrible things happen.

I know we all live busy lives, and have other personal and athletic related goals and obligations, but please consider coming out to McDowell Mountain Park on June 5th for a moonlight time trial. It’s for a good cause.
Thanks,

Velo Vie Sponsored Procon Cycling Team Wins Arizona State Criterium Championship 2010
Scottsdale, AZ – Velo Vie, a leading manufacturer of high-end carbon fiber bikes, is excited to announce its founding sponsorship team, Procon Cycling, has celebrated a number of significant victories this season including the Arizona State Criterium Championship 2010.
Presented by Team Waste Management and supported by the downtown Scottsdale merchants, the 2010 Arizona State Criterium Championships took place at the Cyclo de Mayo Criterium Course in downtown Scottsdale, Arizona on Sunday, May 2, 2010. All fields were scored separately and medals were given to the top three places in all categories.
The entire Procon team is celebrating a day of victory after a perfect combination of large fields and windy rides. At the top of the winners’ circle was Craig Streit, the 2009 Cat 2 State Champion. This year Craig won the Pro/1/2 race becoming the Pro/1 Arizona State Criterium Champion. Teammate Keith Brodhagen fought hard to win the 50+ race and earn the State Championship title. Procon riders, Scott Wall and Patrick Rhodes demonstrated great competitive spirit taking Silver and an awesome 7th place, respectively.
Streit, racing the Vitesse 300 SE to victory once again, said: “I have come to reply on my Vitesse as another extension of my body and expect it to perform at the same capacity. Each and every time it exceeds my expectation and enables me to take it to the next level. I believe this is the bike that can handle the fast pace, tight hairpins and blind corners inherent in competition, while also being lightweight enough to accelerate my pace. I love it!”
Procon Cycling is considered one of the premier cycling teams/clubs in Arizona. Offering a diverse member base, the entire Procon team strives to promote cycling through the promotion of competitive races, training rides and clinics. Amateur racers at all levels are supported by Procon Cycling, a team consisting of Juniors, masters and categorized riders aiming to excel in all disciplines. Team members have returned impressive performances in Road, Mountain, Cyclocross and Track.
Since the company’s inception in 2006, Procon has partnered with Velo Vie as it works to promote a healthy lifestyle through cycling. Velo Vie has successfully built a strong online presence by offering its complete line of carbon fiber bicycles directly to customers, while also creating a close-knit community of elite Velo Vie riders who share their triumphs and challenges.
“Every year that we work with Procon Cycling is another year of riding excitement as they continue to outdo themselves,” said Homayoon Farsi, Velo Vie CEO. “At Velo Vie, we love to see riders take these bicycles to victory. We are proud to be a part of the amazing success of this team and can’t wait to see what 2011 will bring.”
The sponsorship of championship teams, such as Procon Cycling, is an extension of Velo Vie’s community and healthy lifestyle philosophies. As a factory sponsor, Velo Vie provides Procon with the bicycles and accessories needed to effectively compete in statewide racing competitions.
