Checking in with Chad Beyer at ToC.

We thought it was about time to check in with Chad Beyer at the Amgen Tour of California. He’s been racing up and down the roads of California since last Sunday; with some nice successes might we add…

VelocityGroupCycling: You were in the early break in stage one. It looked like a long day in the saddle off the front. Did the team ask you to cover the early move, or were you just in the right place at the right time?

Chad Beyer: On the first stage, we wanted to have someone in a big move. I was just watching and I saw about 3 guys going in a hard strung out section and I bridged across. It wasn’t a big move but I just took the opportunity. Its always good to have a guy in the move.

VGC: What goes through your mind while off the front in a small group as the kilometers tick over one-by-one?

CB: I’m usually just trying to remind myself to eat and drink when I’m in the break, you have to be prepared to go to the line. I like being off the front and just riding, you don’t have to worry about positioning in the field.

VGC:  What are your plans for the rest of the Tour of California? Any stages you have your eyes set on?

CB: The plan for the rest of the race is to keep Steve Morabito up on GC and help George go for a stage. If I have an opportunity to go in a break I’ll take it. I’m always day dreaming of riding everyone off my wheel and taking the stage though. Dream big right?

Thanks Chad. Best of luck with the rest of the stages.
