Velo Vie Sponsored Amore e Vita Rider Sergie Grechyn Finishes First in Competitive TDS With Unexpected Ending
October 10, 2009
Scottsdale, AZ – Velo Vie, a leading manufacturer and consumer-direct marketer of high-end carbon fiber bikes, has announced a riveting first finish by Amore e Vita rider, Sergie Grechyn in the Tour de Scottsdale on Sunday, October 4, 2009.
Grechyn and Yuriy Metlushenko of the Velo Vie sponsored Amore e vita competitive cycling both participated in this event. Grechyn’s nail-biting performance included the crossing of a double yellow line, which cost him the title and did earn a DQ citation. Metlushenko claimed a strong sixth place slot in the same set.
The Tour de Scottsdale offered a competitive prize purse and non-competitive wave. Participant contributions for this sixth annual event were used to help raise awareness of and benefit for the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy. Competitors were able to participate in one of two CAT competitions. The recreational tour included 70 miles of rolling hills and spectacular desert views.
Velo Vie works to promote a healthy lifestyle in conjunction with competition through state of the art bicycles that offer exclusive and innovative features unmatched in the industry. The company emphasizes the support of the universal needs of all levels of riders.
The sponsorship of the Amore e Vita racing team is an extension of Velo Vie strategy , benefiting the team with nationwide support and high-quality racing equipment. Both Grechyn and Metlushenko participated in the race in an effort to support Velo Vie cycling club initiatives nationally with other sponsors as well as the local Arizona cyclist.
Grechyn was the first of the two teammates to finish the 70 mile race with 2:36, considered to be an amazing performance by Velo Vie. Just twenty miles into the race, Grechyn attacked and claimed the lead he was able to sustain for more than 50 miles. The chasing group finished 3 minutes behind Grechyn.
“We were very pleased with the performance of our rider, “said Homayoon Farsi, CEO of Velo Vie. “We were disappointed with the DQ ruling regarding Sergie’s crossing the double yellow line in one instance. Most of our riders are used to high level professional rides in Europe when both lanes are closed for the race.”
“The important thing is the organization acknowledges Sergie’s performance and his finish time . We continue our support to Cycling competitive for professional and armatures as our core business,” added Farsi.

So “pro” to launch a blatant sustained attack over a double yellow line down nine mile hill. You would think a “pro” could simply ride away from the 3 amateurs who were apparently taking up the entire right lane without breaking the rules.
Let’s give this guy a break for crossing the yellow line, something a day 1 road racer would known not to do. I’m half Russian and after doing some translation I learned that “Grechyn” is Russian for color blind.
Also, please take the term “high end” out of the Velo Vie bike description. Unless I can start consider my girlfriends 2001 Celica a high end sports car?
I’ve raced a fair bit in Europe and there were plenty of times where I had little clue of what the offical/commissaire’s pre-race instructions were. Particularly in France where they talk forever over a loud speaker. To us, it’s common sense not to cross the yellow line but to a foreigner it may not be. I would point more to their guidance here in AZ. Did anyone explain the rules/regs to them before the race?
Just my thoughts.
I was along in a follow vehicle for the ride. The attack from the “pro” Amore Vita rider was on the downhill section of 9mile hill. Not only did he cross the double yellow lines he crossed the single white line hugging the leftside of the road. We don’t have a rolling enclosure (yet) for the Tour de Scottsdale so attacking into oncoming traffic made the other riders alittle apprehensive to chase, ala a 3:00 gap.
Hopefully next year we have more teams in appearance to make the event bigger and better for everyone.
How do you “win” a race if you are “disqualified.” I don’t speak Russian but surely the self congratulatory fools who posted this should understand that rule. Nice try at self-promotion. Sad when a “Pro” has to cheat to beat the amateurs. Velo Vie had sponsored riders in last year’s race. They knew the rules last year…what has changed?
ok… i’m guessing that the same folks whinging and moaning about the center line violation are the same riders who consistently cross the yellow line when bos goes up happy valley, or when the shootout ramps up after crossing los reales, or as vos climbs to the finish… give it a rest. there was a dq and forbes crowned champ. done deal, end of story.
