West Valley Cycle – 8/15

Just in, an report on last Saturday’s West Valley Cycle group ride.

———-

All,

Last week set an all time record for West Valley rides. 70+ riders! Sprints were dominated by Ken (won 4) and Ryan (won 1). So altitude training does work. Or maybe Ken was tired of reading about Shaun winning all the sprints in his absence…

Highlights:

· Our increase in riders is a great testament to our group as a whole that all new riders want to come back for more. Camaraderie, peloton positive attitude, a pace for all levels, and great route are the cornerstone of our success. Let’s keep it going

· Ken back from mid west, Jared back from a month of travel, and Jerry back from cycling accident

· New bikes for Mike Smith and Steve M. Well deserved

· The benefit of expanded A group. Guys like Steve and Amad’s fitness has improved exponentially in the last two months

· Tischa joining the group

· Speaking of gals joining the group, I think we are beyond fortunate with our female riders. Stephanie, Vicki, Lisa, Amy, Heather, Chrissy, Tracie, Kathy, Jill, and Sally to name a few. All can hang with A peloton and bring great spirit to the group

· Pat from Swiss America. Frankly, I was bonking at the end of the long loop A group ride, and Pat, John, and Jason’s determination to finish strong helped me make it home. Thanks!

Notes:

· The Estrella Market Manager gave me a good talking to. We are draining their limited fountain ice machine. Combine this with the time it takes to refill 70 riders with water and ice, out short rest stop is taking way too long. Moving forward, I will use our marketing fund to buy two gallons of water and two bags of ice which will be waiting for the group outside. (that fund should last at least two weeks). Let’s skip the fountain, hit the head, buy whatever you need for nutrition, and be ready to roll to Verrado ALL TOGETHER. Key there is we need to roll out all together.

· Andy Fisher completed the Leadville 100 along with Lance Armstrong. Finished in under 12 hours with honors. Congrats!

  1. Hey Austin sorry for all the emails but I am trying to figure out how i can get a link to my cause posted on the Velocitycitycycling site. I have started a petition to change the laws for motorist who hit and either kill or injure a cyclist through pure negligence. It is called Cyclist Against Reckless Drivers. If you click on the link it will take you right to the petition. I need 250000 signatures before i can present it to our state legislatures. I am also deligently TRYING to start a non-profit charity for cyclist who get injured or die due to a traffic accident. The organization will provide financial support for families, medical bills, meals, and any assistance a family might need when there loved is injured or killed.
